In 445 BC, Nehemiah is told that Jerusalem was razed to the ground and its citizens oppressed. He weeps. He fasts and prays to the God of heaven.
In 587 BC, Nebuchadnezzar conquered Jerusalem. He deported the tribe of Judah to Babylon. Later, on three separate occasions, some are permitted to return.
Nehemiah lists the priests and Levites. They dedicate the wall. They have great joy. They give money to the temple.
