SUMMARY

AUTHOR. Both Scripture and tradition attribute Genesis to Moses. This was enough to satisfy most people in the synagogue and the church.

But in modern days, critical scholars insist that Genesis was compiled from various sources. This seems to be the product of rationalistic skepticism.

PURPOSE. The Book of Genesis supplies the historical basis for God’s covenant with his people.

The Most High God selected them from the nations, and consecrated to his service. This was especially seen in the divine covenant with Abraham.
