In sin offerings, some of the blood was smeared on the horns of the altar. The rest of the blood was poured at the base of the altar. Why the base of the altar?
If God’s people break the covenant, they will eventually spiral downward to cannibalism. They will eat their own children. This is an outcome of their own sin.
At special moments in biblical history, a miraculous fire appears and consumes a sacrifice. This indicates God’s acceptance. Plus it must have been spectacular!
To take a census is to count the people. Moses, king David, and king Jehoash all took censuses, with greatly varying results.
The Lord Jesus does not mince words. He uses the term “hypocrite” to address his opponents directly.
