DO NOT JUDGE OTHERS

VERSE 1. “Don’t judge, so that you won’t be judged.

Don’t judge. Christians are so accustomed to judging other people that it is very difficult for them to stop, much less recognize that they have a problem.

Judging is non-stop in the news media. News commentators rage out at people who sees things differently than they do.

Psalm 75:7. But God is the judge. He puts down one, and lifts up another.

VERSE 2. For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you.

VERSE 3. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but don’t consider the beam that is in your own eye?

the beam that is in your own eye. We should not condemn others for a speck of sawdust in their eye when we has a plank in our own eye. That is hypocritical.

VERSE 4. Or how will you tell your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye;’ and behold, the beam is in your own eye?

VERSE 5. You hypocrite! First remove the beam out of your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck out of your brother’s eye.

remove the speck out of your brother’s eye. If we must make a judgment, we must first be certain of our own lives.

DO NOT ENTRUST IMPORTANT THINGS TO BELLIGERENT PEOPLE

VERSE 6. “Don’t give that which is holy to the dogs, neither throw your pearls before the pigs, lest perhaps they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

This verse seems like a command! Would you consider acting on it? More commands of Jesus Christ from the Gospel According to Matthew and from the entire Bible.

throw your pearls before the pigs. Do not entrust holy things (what is sacred) to unholy people.

2 Esdras 12:38. You shall teach them to the wise of your people, whose hearts you know are able to comprehend and keep these secrets.

PRAY EFFECTIVELY

VERSE 7. “Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you.

Seek, and you will find. David said a similar thing to Solomon:

1 Chronicles 28:9. You, Solomon my son, know the God of your father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.

VERSE 8. For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened.

VERSE 9. Or who is there among you, who, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?

VERSE 10. Or if he asks for a fish, who will give him a serpent?

VERSE 11. If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

your Father who is in heaven give good things. Our Father in heaven delights in giving good gifts to those who persist in prayer. The greatest gift of all is the Holy Spirit. Read more »

VERSE 14. How narrow is the gate, and restricted is the way that leads to life! Few are those who find it.

BE A TRUE DISCIPLE

VERSE 21. Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

he who does the will of my Father. Is our eternal salvation based on the degree of our obedience?

Matthew 25:11. Afterward the other virgins also came, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us.’

VERSE 22. Many will tell me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name, in your name cast out demons, and in your name do many mighty works?’

Lord, Lord. The Greek word is Κύριε (“Kyrie”). It means lord, master, sir. In the Medieval era, people addressed their king as “lord.” It does not indicate divinity.

Many will tell me. Now the Lord shifts his attention to those in positions of Christian leadership. He addresses the situation of “many” in Christian leadership.

didn’t we prophesy in your name. In our day, we often view preachers as the ultimate example of living the Christian life. However, there is no correlation between being a preacher and whether you are saved or not.

in your name cast out demons. In our day, we often think that to be capable of casting out demons, the exorcist needs a close living relationship with Jesus Christ. However, there is no correlation between being casting out demons and whether you are saved or not.

in your name do many mighty works. Miracle-workers are often viewed as the greatest examples of being saved. However, there is no correlation between doing miracles and whether you are saved or not.

the sand. That is, the teachings of the Pharisees.

VERSE 27. The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”

VERSE 28. When Jesus had finished saying these things, the multitudes were astonished at his teaching,

the multitudes. Jesus was not just addressing his disciples. He was also addressing the multitudes.
