Psalm 100

Shout for joy to the LORD.

SHOUT FOR JOY TO THE LORD

A Psalm of thanksgiving

VERSE 1. Shout for joy to the LORD, all you lands!

KJV translation. “Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.”

Shout for joy. We are not to be subdued in our praise of the LORD.

all you lands. That is, all the earth, or all peoples.

VERSE 2. Serve the LORD with gladness. Come before his presence with singing.

with gladness. Our gladness is a way to serve the LORD God.

Some Christians seem downcast. If they could find gladness, they would be more effective in serving the LORD God.

VERSE 3. Know that the LORD, he is God. It is he who has made us, and we are his. We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

the sheep of his pasture. The author sees the LORD as a shepherd.

VERSE 4. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, and bless his name.

Enter into his gates. That is, pass through the gates of Jerusalem.

into his courts. That is, pass into the temple.

VERSE 5. For the LORD is good. His loving kindness endures forever, his faithfulness to all generations.
