Psalm 150

The author calls us to praise the LORD with every musical instrument we have. We are to dance and make it LOUD!

PRAISE THE LORD!

VERSE 1. Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary! Praise him in his heavens for his acts of power!

Praise the LORD. We can praise God wherever we’re at. Maybe we’re in a sanctuary. Maybe we’re in heaven. Those two places are perfect for praising the LORD. As is every location. There’s never a wrong place to praise the LORD.

VERSE 2. Praise him for his mighty acts! Praise him according to his excellent greatness!

mighty acts . . .excellent greatness. There are hundreds or thousands of reasons to praise the LORD. This verse suggests two:

  • his mighty acts
  • his excellent greatness

VERSE 3. Praise him with the sounding of the shofar! Praise him with harp and lyre!

the shofar. . .harp and lyre. Many people find it helps them to praise God if they have music. The verses in this chapter list the musical instruments that were available back in those days:

INSTRUMENT VERSE
cymbals (loud) verse 5
cymbals (resounding) verse 5
flute verse 4
harp verse 3
lyre verse 3
shofar verse 3
stringed instruments verse 4
tambourine verse 4

In our day, we have many more musical instruments available. There are styles of praise and worship music that can fit just about everybody.

VERSE 4. Praise him with tambourine and dancing! Praise him with stringed instruments and flute!

dancing. Can you dance in the Spirit? Are you willing to try?

with stringed instruments. Some people deny themselves their God-given birthright of joy by avoiding praise and worship music.

VERSE 5. Praise him with loud cymbals! Praise him with resounding cymbals!

with loud cymbals. Praise is not quiet. It makes noise. It is LOUD!

VERSE 6. Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!

Amen!
