Psalm 16
To know the LORD is a real delight!
TO KNOW THE LORD IS A REAL DELIGHT!
A Poem by David.
VERSE 1. Preserve me, God, for I take refuge in you.
VERSE 2. My soul, you have said to the LORD, “You are my Lord. Apart from you I have no good thing.”

Apart from you. David’s trust in the LORD God was exclusive. David had no other good.
I have no good thing. The LORD God is our only source of well-being. Our happiness lies in him alone.
Any happiness we find outside of the LORD God is transitory and insufficient.
Let’s find more happiness in the LORD God!
VERSE 3. As for the holy ones who are in the earth, they are the excellent ones in whom is all my delight.
they are the excellent ones. Godly people are our true heroes!
VERSE 4. Their sorrows shall be multiplied who give gifts to another god. Their drink offerings of blood I will not offer, nor take their names on my lips.
VERSE 5. The LORD assigned my portion and my cup. You made my lot secure.
You made my lot secure. The LORD makes our future secure.
VERSE 6. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places. Yes, I have a good inheritance.
The lines. In those days, land was measured by line and distributed by lot.
The LORD God had given David a materially abundant life.
VERSE 7. I will bless the LORD, who has given me counsel. Yes, my heart instructs me in the night seasons.
VERSE 8. I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

right hand. The Bible often mentions “the right hand” of God. That is a position of power and honor. We believe it refers to Jesus Christ. More verses about the right hand.
I have set. David made a resolve to walk with the LORD God. Everywhere he goes, he envisions God surrounding him, in front and at his sides.
Can you imagine being surrounded by the presence of the LORD God?
I shall not be moved. With this security, David is not frightened.
VERSE 9. Therefore my heart is glad, and my tongue rejoices. My body shall also dwell in safety.
VERSE 10. For you will not leave my soul in Sheol, neither will you allow your holy one to see corruption.
Sheol. It was thought to be the place of the dead.
VERSE 11. You will show me the path of life. In your presence is fullness of joy. In your right hand there are pleasures forever more.
