Psalm 27

The LORD is my light and my salvation.

THE LORD IS MY LIGHT AND MY SALVATION

By David.

VERSE 1. The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid?

Whom shall I fear? As those who walk with the LORD God, we need not fear anyone, anything or any circumstance. This is a great Promise!

VERSE 2. When evildoers came at me to eat up my flesh, even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell.

VERSE 3. Though an army should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear. Though war should rise against me, even then I will be confident.

VERSE 4. One thing I have asked of the LORD, that I will seek after: that I may dwell in the LORD’s house all the days of my life, to see the LORD’s beauty, and to inquire in his temple.

This verse is fantastic! Would you consider memorizing it? More great verses to memorize from the Psalms and from the entire Bible.

Our paraphrase:

The one thing I want from God, the thing I seek most of all, is the privilege of meditating in his temple, living in his presence every day of my life, delighting in his incomparable perfections and glory.

One thing I have asked. This is single-mindedness!

There is only one thing David seeks. It is to dwell in the house of the LORD all his days. David gives his life to one pursuit; he doesn’t dabble at 40 things. He narrowed things down. He sought one thing.

In our own lives, how can we be more single-minded for Jesus Christ?

that will I seek after. Our lives are not about remaining static. Rather, our lives are all about running toward the prize for which God has called us. Read more »

VERSE 5. For in the day of trouble, he will keep me secretly in his pavilion. In the secret place of his tabernacle, he will hide me. He will lift me up on a rock.

VERSE 6. Now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me; I will offer sacrifices of joy in his tent. I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.

VERSE 7. Hear, LORD, when I cry with my voice. Have mercy also on me, and answer me.

VERSE 8. When you said, “Seek my face,” my heart said to you, “I will seek your face, LORD.”

NAB translation. “Come,” says my heart, “seek his face”; your face, LORD, do I seek!

seek his face. Do you seek the face of the LORD God?

VERSE 9. Don’t hide your face from me. Don’t put your servant away in anger. You have been my help. Don’t abandon me, neither forsake me, God of my salvation.

VERSE 10. When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.

This verse is fantastic! Would you consider memorizing it? More great verses to memorize from the Psalms and from the entire Bible.

NLT translation: Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close.

father and … mother forsake me. When some people become Christians, they are rejected by their families.

VERSE 11. Teach me your way, LORD. Lead me in a straight path, because of my enemies.

VERSE 12. Don’t deliver me over to the desire of my adversaries, for false witnesses have risen up against me, such as breathe out cruelty.

VERSE 13. I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

VERSE 14. Wait for the LORD. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for the LORD.
