The Sword of the Spirit

In the Bible, the word “sword” can often be taken as a euphemism for “the Bible.” Here are the verses about this:

 


 

Deuteronomy 32:41. if I sharpen my glittering sword, my hand grasps it in judgment; I will take vengeance on my adversaries, and will repay those who hate me.

2 Samuel 20:8. When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. Joab was clothed in his apparel of war that he had put on, and on it was a sash with a sword fastened on his waist in its sheath; and as he went along it fell out.

Isaiah 11:4. but he will judge the poor with righteousness, and decide with equity for the humble of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked.

Isaiah 31:8. The Assyrian will fall by the sword, not of man; and the sword, not of mankind, shall devour him. He will flee from the sword, and his young men will become subject to forced labor.

Isaiah 41:2. Who has raised up one from the east? Who called him to his foot in righteousness? He hands over nations to him and makes him rule over kings. He gives them like the dust to his sword, like the driven stubble to his bow.

Jeremiah 48:10. “Cursed is he who does the work of the LORD negligently; and cursed is he who keeps back his sword from blood.

Ephesians 6:17. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
